The organisers of an annual air show in Centurion believe that this year’s event will be the biggest yet.
This year’s Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) from 19 to 23 September, with the expo on the final two days, will take place at Waterkloof Airforce Base.
Marketed as the only air show of its kind, combining a show and a trade exhibition, the AAD is expected to attract delegates from across the globe.
At least 90 delegations from 47 countries were expected to attend.
The expo will feature over 30 000 square metres of exhibition space with at least 44 aircraft on show including the Gripen, Hawk, Rooivalk and other SA Airforce aircraft.
Marketing and business development manager or organiser Armscor Lulu Mzili said the show was an opportunity for the local industry to showcase its capabilities to the rest of the world but especially the continent.
She said those in attendance could also look forward to a youth development programme designed to attract the youth to the industry.
“Other international exhibitions do not have this initiative. We are the only aerospace and defence expo which is showing learners the career opportunities within these industries,” said Mzili.
Gates will open at 05:00 with the show taking place from 08:00 to 17:00 daily.
