Who are we

  BACKGROUND

This 5th installment of Africa Aerospace and Defence will again be taking place at AFB Ysterplaat in Cape Town over the period 17 – 21 September 2008.

The Youth Programme is being organised as partnerd to this end, The focus of the programme will be to demonstrate and to explore ways to expose the South African Youth to aerospace, maritime and defence career opportunities available in the aerospace, maritime and defence industry

The various elements of the AAD Youth Development Programme will include the following :

  • A Science Competition involving technologies such as robotics, rocketry and meteorology;
  • Theater in which various documentary material will be shown as well as lectures and workshops presented;
  • Art in the Lab Exhibition to display winning projects;
  • A recruitment and career guidance exhibition area;
  • Model Building:
  • The opportunity to operate various simulators;
  • Virtual aviation

Time: Two parts
3 Trade Days (1200 invited students)
2 Public Days (open to the public)

The Youth Development Programme will involve the inviting of schools from all over South Africa to participate in the Development Programme and we expect to host 1200 of students on the Trade Days.

The aim is to encourage and inspire the students to apply their minds creatively.


  OUR GOALS

The goal for the AAD Youth Development Programme is to encourage and create interest at previously disadvantaged science and technology secondary schools by having competitions, role models, career advice etc at the AAD Expo 2008 that will serve to motivate and involve the targeted group in activities to create awareness and interest in the aerospace, maritime and defence environment.


  OUR OBJECTIVES


  • To promote local community involvement in the AAD Youth Development Programme
  • Increase awareness and highlight, career opportunities in the aerospace, maritime and defence industry Involving industry related companies to participate on the programme
  • To encourage the Department of Education as well as the Department of Science and Technology to expose students and the youth to the aerospace, maritime and defence industry
  • To encourage participation from schools and universities
  • To provide companies opportunities to recruit potential students for in service training programs or bursaries
