  ATNS Youth Science Competition Prize Giving

The ATNS Youth Science Competition will take place during AAD 2008. It is sponsored by ATNS (Air Traffic and Navigation Services) Company of South Africa

Target Group: Grade 9- 11 from the 9 Provinces in South Africa

15 Topics have been identified for the ATNS Youth Science Competition:
  • Engineering Science/Chemistry [Space Models/Rocketry]: The Physics of Rocket Motors - Propellant Design
  • Engineering Science [Robotics]: Robo-Arm
  • AeroSpace Design: Space Settlement Design in 2050
  • AeroSpace Design/Ergonomics: The Astronaut’s Bedroom - Design a bed and chair for astronauts who live in outer space, in atmospheres different from that of Earth.
  • Astronomy/Engineering Design. Planetary Exploration - Picking up Moon Pebbles: Design a device that will assist astronauts to pick up moon dust and small rocks during exploration.
  • Engineering Science [Communication]: Design and Develop a Communications Grid for Lunar Environment that will be used by the inhabitants of a Moon Settlement
  • Engineering Science [Technology]; GPS in a Future Lunar Environment
  • Tourism/AeroSpace Design: CosMotel - Space Tourism in 2050
  • Aviation Science/Communication/Computer Science: Air Traffic Control Grid for 2050
  • Aviation Science: High Altitude Aviation in 2050 - The Karman Line
  • Environmental Science/Technology Design: Earth Gone! - The Underwater Human Habitat in 2050
  • Astronomy/Mathematics: Asteroid! [Asteroid Paths: Fibonacci Revisited] - Investigate whether the Fibonacci numbers apply when the orbits of the planets in our solar system is analyzed.
  • Engineering Science [Technology]; Satellite Applications in 2050
  • The Science of Law [Space Law]: Junior Commission of Investigation: Debris from Space
  • Computer Science: The Virus Factor: Investigate the impact and role of the CyberVirus in IT, specifically the Internet, in 2050

Registration 15 May 2008
