How can your school be invited?
The YDP will invite the following youth to visit the program:

  • The Focused Youth Awareness Group will consist of 1,200 grades 11 youth to be invited from the Department Of Education Dinaledi high schools in Gauteng, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. They will participate in the YDP rotation programme during the trade days.
  • The Mass Awareness Group will consist of 1,500 grades 9 to 10 youth to be invited from high schools in Gauteng. They will participate in the YDP arena programme during the trade days.
  • The Public Day Awareness consists of youth visiting the show over the two public days. They will participate in the YDP rotation and arena programme on a first come first serve basis.


The aviation and defence industry wishes to be the employer of choice for these learners and only the top achievers will be invited to the show. The top achievers in grade 9 to 11 with the following subjects are invited: Mathematics, Science and Technology related subjects.

Your school can be selected to visit the Africa Aerospace and Defence Youth Development Programme on one of the trade days between 19 and 21 September 2012. The learners and educators from the invited schools will enjoy the activities at the exhibition in Hall 5, the YDP pavilion and Arena.

Contact the chairperson for more information if your school wishes to participate in the programme. The invitation has the following inclusions/exclusions:

Includes

  • Transport from the school to AFB Waterkloof and back to the school.
  • Free entrance to the show on the Trade Days.
  • A lunch pack per learner and educator.
  • Participation in all the activities in the YDP Pavilion.
  • Scale to build and keep.
  • Receiving of promotional material.


Excludes

  • Breakfast or dinner on the day of the visit.
  • Additional refreshments to the sponsored lunch pack e.g., cold drinks, chips, chocolates.
  • Learners to bring their own pocket money.
  • Additional promotional items and souvenirs will be on sale for learners and educators to buy.
  • Tuck shop facilities are available at the show.
  • Public Day Air Show Tickets will be available to buy at the YDP.


Due to grade 9/10/11 learners and educators visiting a military base with a flying program, certain safety and security arrangement have to be made. The following will be strictly applied:

  • Every learner and educator has to complete and sign an indemnity form before attending the show.
  • Learners are to attend in their school uniforms.
  • Educator oversight is necessary with a ratio of 1 educator: 15 learners.
  • Exemplary discipline and behaviour of learners.
  • Preference is given to learners with science and mathematics achievements.
  • Names and identification numbers of learners and educators attending must be provided two weeks before the show, this will be printed, as it will ensure access to the exhibition.
  • Movement at the show is restricted to Hall 5 and the YDP Pavilion only.
  • One of the defence recruitment criteria is to have a fit health status. Healthy learners must be identified.
  • The programme is intensive with many activities. Schools must arrive on time and leave on time. Late arrivals will be barred from entering the exhibition.
  • Right of admission is reserved.
