COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Air Force Base Ysterplaat (AFB YPLT) will again play host to the prestigious Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) 2010 exhibition. This event is without a doubt Africa’s premier aerospace, general aviation, defence and security expo. AAD2010 opens on 21 September 2010 with three trade days followed by two public days, Friday 24 and Saturday 25 September comprising of a world class air show, dynamic vehicle demonstrations and many other static displays. A Youth Development Program will be staged in a dedicated Pavilion next to the Trade Visitors Reception where the youth can interact with high tech simulators and obtain information from role models on future careers in the world of aerospace and defence.

AFB Ysterplaat is presented with the opportunity to assist the organizers of AAD2010 in showcasing the Air Force’s Air Power capability as well as various aspects of local and international aerospace, general aviation and defence related products, systems and technologies.

AFB Ysterplaat is well aware of the fact that the increased noise levels of the participating aircraft might be disturbing to the community in the immediate vicinity of the base and we therefore wish to inform our community regarding the proposed flying program during September 2010. Weather permitting, the flying schedule will be as follows:

13 to 23 September: Practice and validation flights (limited flying from 08:00 - 17:00)
24 to 25 September: Public Air Show (08:00 - 17:00)

Please take note that an abnormal amount of vehicle and pedestrian traffic is to be expected within the immediate vicinity of the Base. We do realise that this could be an inconvenience and request that you plan your movements over this period accordingly. We will endeavor to limit aircraft activity to within working hours so as to cause minimal disruption to our community.

The South African Air Force and especially AFB Ysterplaat appreciate the continuous support of the community and request that any enquiries be directed to the Call Centre situated at the base. The contact number is (021) 508 6414. A dedicated e-mail address, aad2010@ysterplaat.org.za is in operation and the public is invited to also visit the AAD website www.aadexpo.co.za to obtain additional information regarding the exhibition and air show as well as the public parking facilities.
