AAD2012

AAD has moved to a new office at AFB Waterkloof, Terminal Building, 157 Hans Strijdom Street, Centurion, City of Tshwane. New telephone numbers: +27 12 672 4059 or +27 71 697 7824

Note that the AAD office will close on 15 December 2011 and reopen on 9 January 2012.

Africa Aerospace and Defence is fully supported by the South African government with the Commercial Aviation Association of South Africa (CAASA) honoured to be the lead partner of the 2012 edition, in partnership with South Africa’s Aerospace, Maritime and Defence Industry Association (AMD) and the Armaments Corporation of South Africa (ARMSCOR), with full support from the Department of Defence (DOD) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The planning for Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD2012) is well underway, and so far everything seems to be falling into place.

The response to moving Africa Aerospace and Defence to its traditional base in the City of Tshwane at AFB WATERKLOOF has been overwhelmingly positive from past exhibitors and potential exhibitors. AAD2012 will surpass all previous events due to the fact that 93% of the indoor space has already been reserved a full year ahead of the exhibition with nine national pavilions, 119 direct exhibitors from 28 countries and 22 confirmed civil aircraft that will be on static display. There are several conferences and symposia being hosted before and during the exhibition. These events increase the potential for participants to interact with many high-level personalities and to forge new business links.

AAD going green

What is Digital Greening?

The launch of Digital Greening comes at a time when we all need to be aware of the carbon footprint on our earth. This product is going to revolutionise the way the exhibition industry, namely the exhibitors, has worked for many years. This new age technology allows for each visitor to get a unique coded card that will enable them to download relevant brochures from the exhibitor.

How does Digital Greening work?

When visitors to an exhibition (key contacts for exhibitors) arrive at registration they will be handed their unique coded card together with a visitor’s badge. Once inside the exhibition, they will be able to plug into the exhibitors ‘digital brochure holder’ (a PC). The PC is part of the new Digital Greening process and would be part of a package to the exhibitor. As soon as the visitor plugs their unique coded card into the PC, their details are downloaded for the exhibitors use into a user friendly database. The benefits of this database are that you can see what your existing or future client is interested in, the system will tell you which brochure the visitor has downloaded – no more large catalogues and brochures will need to be printed! This database is a real time database so management can track the activity on the stand, even if not present at the event.

All registered Digital Greening exhibitors will get a user name and password to access their unique database.

What are the benefits of Digital Greening?

  • Cost saving through minimal or no printing of collateral
  • No additional costs for layout / design of collateral / brochures
  • Cost saving due to no courier / delivery charges to show
  • Maximise the space on stands – smaller storage area required, everything is on your digital brochure holder

Did you know that exhibitor collateral is the single largest source of paper waste at any exhibition? By taking part in the new Digital Greening way, you will be doing your part for our environment and will be contributing to the ‘greener’ way of exhibiting.

How would an exhibitor measure their ROI with Digital Greening?

  • The system will create your own database of meaningful sales leads in real time
  • You can customise your search criteria for specific details
  • Manage your own after show potential / customer base
  • Each department within your organisation can get an appropriate sales lead database
  • You obtain correct and accurate potential client information and details
  • No manual capturing of business cards required

For more information on the Digital Greening initiative please contact Karen Knibbs: karenk@exposolutions.co.za

The South African Air Force (SAAF) is proud to announce the return of a favourite and exciting tradition in Gauteng formerly known to many South Africans as the Air Force Base (AFB) Waterkloof Air Show.

The Chief of the South African Air Force, as well as the City of Tshwane, including the South African government, endorses this prestigious event. This event will however, change into a bigger and better initiative and not only showcase the latest and greatest in terms of military and civilian aviation technologies and aircraft, but the format has also changed in that the SAAF has approved the simultaneous running of a Prestigious Lifestyle Expo on the day. AAD Youth Development Programme (YDP)

A dedicated area will be allocated to once again host the AAD2012 Youth Development programme with the objective of creating awareness amongst the South African youth for future careers within the general aviation and defence related industries. Included in AAD is a Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Youth Programme to create awareness for career opportunities in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). Over the years, the youth initiative has grown into a formal programme and an asset to the AAD in terms of marketing the DOD as employer of choice with the youth, educators, parents and the broad public.

The AAD Youth Development Programme is an integral component of AAD, which supports Government’s socio economic development objectives through promoting and improving results in Maths, Science and Technology subjects at schools. Poverty alleviation is one of many key challenges faced by youth today. The programme is intent on finding solutions to address these problems as well as to sustain and expand the Aerospace and Defence capabilities in South Africa. In particular, we want to enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to rid themselves of their social illnesses, which will undoubtedly be the most important impact of its kind ever to be realised under the programme within the Aerospace and Defence environment.

AAD 2010 witnessed the most successful youth development program presented so far in terms of achieving all the set objectives and marketing the careers in the defence and aviation industry. Based on the success of AAD 2002 to 2010 Youth Development Programmes, it was decided to present a youth development programme again during AAD 2012. The youth programme will be a well-planned and coordinated effort to support the strategic intent of the AAD 2012 and its partners.

The Department of Defence MSDS Youth Awareness Programme

The strategic intent of the Department of Defence MSDS Youth Awareness Programme for 2012 is:

  • Our Vision is: A world-class rejuvenation of defence awareness show.
  • Our Mission is: The promotion of careers in the Defence force amongst the RSA youth.
  • The Mission Success Factors. The following is critical:
  • Participation and support by all the stakeholders in the event.
  • Funding from sponsors to cover the expenses must be a prerequisite to execute the program.
  • Our Goal: The presentation of a prestigious Department of Defence MSDS Youth Awareness Programme.
  • The Objectives: The objectives of the event are:
  • To create awareness and establish interest in the MSD system amongst the youth during the AAD 2012.
  • To contribute to the local community with a social responsibility project during the AAD 2012.
  • Our Target is: The School Participation this year will be a total of 2,500 grades 9 to 11 youth to be invited from high schools in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) was developed for the rejuvenation of the SANDF. It mainly recruits Grade 12 learners to join for an initial two-year period. During this time they will receive training and also be utilised in the area of their training. They will exit the SANDF after two years with portable skills, which can be used in the private sector. Selected individuals can be invited after the two years to continue with a career in the SANDF. The SANDF wishes to be the employer of choice for these learners and only the top achievers will be invited to the show.

The following broad career opportunities exist in the MSDS:

  • South African Army Young Lions Programme: combat soldiers, information technology specialist, engineers and logistic support.
  • South African Air Force Siyandiza Programme: pilots, navigators, ground support crew, technicians and logistic support.
  • South African Navy Izivunguvungu Programme: combat sailors, divers, naval engineers and logistic support.
  • South African Military Health Service St Johns Programme: paramedics, nurses and logistic support.

Our call for sponsors

The five shows success so far would not have been possible without the support received from the aviation and defence industry sponsors. The AAD Youth Development Program relies on sponsorships to fund the activities during the show. The DOD funds 40% of the programme and the rest of the funding is made up with your sponsorships. The programme is now calling for sponsors to support this noble cause at AAD 2012.

To participate in the programme and to get involved with sponsors the following can be contacted:
